Welcome, dear Reader, to the beginning of a new chapter on Substack. While the Jerry Report will continue to offer insights into the Art World, this platform allows me to delve deeper into the tapestry of my life—both as an artist and as a person. Here, I aim to share the lessons I've gathered on my winding journey toward self-sufficiency, creativity, and, perhaps most importantly, hope.
Beyond the art fairs, parties, and memes, there's a story of resilience. I am a survivor of an abusive religious cult and Typhus Rickettsia, a life-threatening illness. I celebrate five years of sobriety and have successfully maintained a weight loss of 79 pounds. Through these experiences, I've reconnected with my core and found humility in the unseen forces that unite us all. Overcoming these challenges has shaped the person I am today.
Life has since grown sweeter, though not without its trials. I've established a loving home with my fiancé, Matthew, and ventured into building art businesses and consulting for others. My studies of the Art World, art market, and broader financial markets have revealed intriguing parallels. I've also embraced public speaking, articulating why art holds such relevant significance in our often-painful world.
If you're reading this, welcome! This is the start of my journey on Substack, and I embrace the uncertainty of where it may lead. I eagerly anticipate exploring this new platform with you.
Warm regards,
Hilde Lynn Helphenstein
